The Gran National!  Froot Atkins from Goodmanham trains to become a flat race jockey. “Granny” Froot Atkins hopes to pass the finishing post a real winner for charity when she rides at York Races this summer, writes Debbie Hall  She has never been on a racehorse before but Froot Atkins is relishing the mid-life challenge of learning to flat race. The Goodmanham wife, mother and grandmother is heading for York Racecourse in June, when she will compete in a novice race as part of a major Macmillan Cancer Support fundraising day. Froot, 56, said: “I have been told officially by the selectors that I am the oldest person riding in the race, and the only granny.  Read more here.
