We had 5 runners at a very wet Haydock evening meeting and 4 were in the money.
Light The City enjoyed the test of his stamina and did the business after several good efforts in defeat. The Racing Post commented "Conditions meant this was a test of stamina for these and the field was well strung out despite the gallop appearing on the steady side for much of the way. The majority came centre to stand´s side in the straight. LIGHT THE CITY made light of being 6lb out of the weights and was clearly well suited by the testing conditions. Given his stout pedigree it´s perhaps no surprise he´s only starting to show his true worth as his stamina is being drawn out. He´ll remain one to be interested in as his mark is still likely to be in the 50s even once reassessed for this."

Chosen One who has already won two races this year for us also enjoyed the soft ground and was giving a good ride by his young apprentice rider, Sophie Sylvester. The Racing Post commented "Not a strong sprint handicap by any means, with a smaller field than usually contests races of this nature and a couple racing from out of the weights. The main action unfolded up the centre of the track. CHOSEN ONE dominated from an early stage and registered a fourth success in just eight starts since joining Ruth Carr. This wasn´t that competitive but he´s clearlystill thriving and will be of interest if turned out unpenalised for this (entered at Pontefract on Wednesday)."

Mentins for the consistant Red Cape, 3rd at Redcar, Light The City who has been 3rd and 2nd at Beverley, Imperial Djay ran a good race at York to finish 4th after a short break and old Raccoon whose 2nd at Catterick took his career prize money to over £100k!
Froggy has been threatening to get his head in front for some time and did so under a late swoop from Jimmy Sullivan. The Racing Post commented "A tight 56-75 sprint handicap. They raced in one group towards the far side with plenty of traffic problems. Three came towards the stands´ side in the end headed home by King Of Swords. FROGNAL, taken to post early and awkward to load, was one of two to miss the break. He overcame traffic problems to follow Rio Sands through and put his head in front right on the line. A winner just once at two from 23 previous starts, he is the right hands."
San Cassiano came out of his Ripon race well so we took him on a southern trip to the headquarters of horseracing at Newmarket. The Racing Post commented
"A decent handicap. The runners made for the far side when the stalls opened, with the third home racing on the rail and the other five a few horse widths off it.
SAN CASSIANO, who raced widest, responded well to pressure to win a shade comfortablyin the end. Following up his Redcar success (when 6lb lower) and now unbeaten in two since being transferred to Ruth Carr, he looks the type to find further improvement for his new yard."

Splash won at Ayr on his first start over a mile on his favoured soft ground. The Racing Post commented "The weaker of the two divisions and most of these find winning very difficult. It looked all over bar the shouting when the strong-travelling Bed Fellow went to the front and began to draw away entering the final furlong, but he got tired in the final half-furlong and that allowed the rallying ONLY A SPLASH to get back up right in the final few yards, with the pair clear.
The winner, who won his maiden on soft ground, had only that to show from 30 previous runs, and he usually races over less, but this confirms he stays 1m no problem, and he is a force when allowed to dominate."

San Cassiano had shown bags of ability in two starts as a two year old last year but had been disappointing this year and came to us for a change of scenery. The Racing Post commented "As is often the case on the round course here, it paid to race handily.
SAN CASSIANO wasn´t best drawn but he was quickly away and got to the first turn in the ideal position, just tracking the leader one off the rail. He responded well when strongly challenged inside the final 2f and, on this evidence, he looks a much-improved performer for his new stable.
The best of his 2yo form made him look well handicapped but he´d been disappointing in three starts this term, including in a claimer last time. Being switched to Ruth Carr has clearly done him the world of good though, and there could be better still to come. A John Smith´s Qualifier over this trip at Redcar is now the plan."
The yard was once again used as a location for a Ride Away catalogue photoshoot. Tash and Mel modelled this time as regular model Charlotte (Ruths sister in law) has just had a baby boy - George! Ignore who is looking for another job after retiring from racing showed just how impeccable his manners are and stood as still as a statue. Pippy also had to model a dog blanket.

Orpsie Boy joined the yard at the end of May in need of a change of scenery after spending all his racing life in Newmarket. After an encouraging run first time out for us went to Pontefract and won under a good ride for promising 7lb claimer Dale Swift. The Racing Post commented "
A sound gallop for this 56-75 handicap which was won in good style by ORPSIE BOY who was only having his second start for this yard. Dangerously well handicapped on old form, he looks the type his trainer can excel with and should be kept on the right side of.
Dhhamaan put a couple of disappointing efforts behind him to make all at Catterick, never looking like getting beaten! The Racing Post commented "DHHAMAAN made all the running and held on gamely to keep up the fine run of form of his yard, after two below par efforts. Sure to be kept busy, he doesn't have the best strike-rate on turf and isn´t one to take a short price about next time off a higher mark."
Tommintoul Star got her head in front at Southwell where she appreciates the easy surface. The Racing Post commented "TOMINTOUL STAR had made the frame on all three previous starts over C&D and she put a poor turf effort behind her to gain a deserved success, keeping on strongly to edge out the runner-up late on. She´s not had much racing for a 4yo and is the type her yard can win more races with here this winter."
Other good runs recently for Red Cape 2nd at Pontefract and Classic Descent 2nd at Ripon.

Tournedos hadn't won in over 2 years but followed up his good Hamilton second earlier in the week with a convincing win at Beverley. The Racing Post commented " A modest sprint but one run at a good pace that soon had the field well strung out. The form looks reliable. TOURNEDOS had been well backed when running his best race of the season at Hamilton last time and just did enough in going one better to land more strong support. He´s won again turned out quickly in the past and will continue to be of interest in his current mood while he remains so well handicapped."
Other good runs recently for Recsent - a close second at Musselburgh, Excusez Moi - a 3rd and a 4th, Ninth House - two 4th's and Moheebb - 2nd and 4th.

Red Cape had gradually worked his way back to form and derserved to win. He showed a great attitude - battling back to win after being briefly headed inside the final fulong. The Racing Post commented "A tight 66-85 sprint handicap. RED CAPE, who has slipped to a mark 2lb lower than his last success at Ripon in August, had the advantage of racing hard against the stands´ side rail. His rider´s useful 5lb allowance enabled him to just get the better of the persistent runner-up. Now he has regained winning brackets he should continue to give a good account of himself. "

The Racing Postt commented "A decent handicap run at a sound pace, and the in-form CHARLIE COOL, who is due to be 7lb higher in future, stayed on strongly to assert inside the final half-furlong. The Cambridgeshire, a race he has been well beaten in before, is the long-term aim."
Other good efforts recently from an unlucky in running Moheebb 3rd at Haydock, 2nd twice Classic Descent, Ignore 3rd, Red Cape 3rd twice.
The Racing Post commented "It took IMPERIAL DJAY a very long time to break his duck, but he has been a revelation since joining his current yard and this was his fourth success since April. Held up early, he was cantering all over his rivals entering the last 2f and once in front over a furlong out, powered right away. This trip on a decent surface are ideal for him, but the handicapper will hit him hard for this so he may need to turn out again soon under a penalty. He holds an entry at Ayr on Friday."
Ninth Housewent one better than his unlucky defeat at Beverley when scoring under a forceful ride from Jame Sullivan. The Racing Post commented "Exposed performers in a fair handicap and one run at an ordinary gallop. NINTH HOUSE had shaped much better for his in-form stable on his previous start and confirmed that promise to nail the enterprisingly ridden runner-up late on. He is due to go up 5lb in future but he will remain well treated on his best form and it would not be a surprise to see him win again this summer."
Good runs also this week from Klynch 2nd, Imperial Djay 2nd and Tomintoul Star 2nd.
We sent out five runners and four of them were in the money!
At Catterick Imperial Djay put two unlucky in running defeats behind him to win in a photo finish under PJ Mc Donald. The Racing Post commented " An open handicap on paper but, in truth, little got into it as Glenridding set a decent gallop, kicked three lengths clear turning for home and looked to have the race in the bag when entering the final furlong with a five-length advantage, only for IMPERIAL DJAY to emerge from the pack with a rare rattle to nab him right on the line. The winner has shown improved form since getting off the mark at Wolverhampton in April and represented a bang-in-form Ruth Carr team. He appreciated the return to this trip, having found Newcastle´s 6f not enough of a stamina test last time, and could easily go in again in current mood." Also at Catterick Frognal finished 3rd after a slow start from the stalls and was doing all his best work at the finish.

At Beverley James Sullivan gave Ninth House a good ride to finish second from a bad draw. He only just failed to beat the favourite, going down 1/4 of length. Chosen One made it two from two for us when winning the concluding 5f handicap. The Racing Post commented "An ordinary sprint handicap and the fourth race on the card over the minimum trip. The time was only 0.34sec slower than the earlier Class 2 conditions stakes. The first two were both drawn high, traditionally a plus here, but ended up contesting the finish some distance away from the inside rail.
The in-form CHOSEN ONE completed a quick hat-trick, two for this yard, with a game victory. Always up with the pace from the 15 stall, he was strongly tackled by the runner-up but found more close home and gave the impression he can win again."
We scored with our first runner at Newmarkets Rowley Mile course when Dubai Dynamo got his head in front right on the line under Hayley Turner. The Racing Post commemted "A good, competitive handicap that was won by ill-fated former course specialist Plum Pudding in 2008, and by the very useful Roaring Forte last season. An open race on paper, it produced a good finish with those racing towards the far side appearing to have an advantage. DUBAI DYNAMO has had a busy time of it this season but swooped late to gain his third success of the year. A consistent performer, he is already due to go up 5lb from tomorrow, so will not find it easy to follow up unless the handicapper revises his opinion in view of this narrow success."

Raccoon ran well at Redcar to finish 3rd in a head wind that doesnt suit horses fitted with breathing tubes. Dubai Dynamo ran a blinder with a 6lb penelty at Ripon going down a neck to Tiger Reins from the in form Michael Dodds stable.
Charlie followed up his Thirsk success with a win on rain softened ground at Ripo bringing home a first prize of over £7500. The Racing Post commented "Probably an ordinary handicap for the grade, but at least they seemed to go a reasonable pace and the time was good, being 3.49 seconds quicker than the later 3-y-o maiden won by Law To Himself.
CHARLIE COOL coped with the overwatered ground to defy a 6lb rise for his recent success at Thirsk. He´s thriving right now and could complete the hat-trick."

Tash, who looks after Charlie at home, receives her grooms prize from the sponsor.

Charlie relaxing in his paddock after his win.
Chosen One was purchased privately by Mr Chapman from his previous owner Roger Fell after he won a seller at Thirsk. He showed a real will to win over a (possibly too) sharp 5f at Musselburgh and had plenty of assistance from the saddle from James Sullivan who had also won on him at Thirsk. The Racing Post commented "CHOSEN ONE, with yet another new yard after beating much higher-rated rivals dropped to selling grade at Thirsk ten days earlier, was off a decent mark here judged strictly on that form, despite being raised 7lb in the meantime. Never far away, he responded to the persistence of his rider to get up inthe dying strides. Connections believe he is best suited by a stiff 5f or 6f and he may turn out again at Chester on Saturday."
Charlie enjoyed a return to a mile to win under Robert Winston at local course Thirsk. The Racing Post commented "
A fair handicap, run in a time around 1.7 seconds quicker than the earlier 51-65 event.
CHARLIE COOL was ridden more conservatively than he had been at Ripon latest, and was dropping back in trip. Racing closest to the inside rail of the four who were more or less in line at the furlong pole, he punched on willingly to score. His mark had come down no less than 20lb since his last win in Dubai in February last year."
Dubai deserves to win another race after several good efforts and was given an intelligent ride from Andy Elliott after breaking much better then normal from the stalls and travelling very well. The Racing Post commented "Six course and distance winners in this line-up made it a competitive 76-90 handicap. Once again it paid to race up with the pace, the winner DUBAI DYNAMO was always on the premises. Dropped to his last winning mark and a positive ride did the jobhere, however it will require a career best to follow up next time, that said, his trainer does well with these types."
The 7f handicap at Newcastle was divided and we won both divisions!
Imperial Djay has been the model of consistance since he joined us and won under a strong drive from Robert Winston after meeting trouble in running. The Racing Post commented "Robert Winston did really well to get a run on IMPERIAL DJAY and deserves credit. The gelding was tucked away out the back towards the inside, and looked to have little hope of finding running room, particularly with Eye For The Girls who was ahead of him, having nowhere to go. However, he somehow got a gap and burst through to get up near the line."
Dhhamaan, having been in the wilderness for 18 months, has really come good and is also running consistantly transferring his AW form onto the grass to win his first race on the turf. Again ridden by Robert Winston but with totally different tactics. Dhhamaan made all and never looked like getting caught. The Racing Post commented "DHHAMAAN was gifted the lead from the rails draw and could be called the winner from some way out, taking advantage of a mark 6lb lower than on the AW to gain his first turf success."
Credit must be given to Trick or Two who is very fast for four and a half furlongs and has been placed several times. Lucky Art has also been unlucky not to win. Dubai Dynamo has been doing his best work at the finish and deserves to win more races if luck went his way. Avontuur has also been running with great credit.
Mr Chapman purchased Flores from David Baron in February and he has only been out of the first three once in five runs since then. Phil Makin gave him a well judged ride to win over 7f at his favourite track Southwell. The Racing Post commented " FLORES SEA benefited from racing just off the hot pace and stayed on best to confirm recent Redcar placings with Young Gladiator, despite meeting that rival on 3lb worse terms (just a neck separated them last time). His last four wins have been gained over C&D."

The Hollingbridge Partnership have owned Imperial Djay since his first run as a three year old in 2008 and Djay finally repaid them their loyalty with a win at Wolverhampton. Since joining the gang at Mowbray House Farm Djay has found a renewed zest for racing. The Racing Post commented:- "IMPERIAL DJAY more than confirmed his good run in a maiden here last time, and looks the sort that his new yard will get going back in the right direction as the year goes on, travelling strongly in behind and settling matters quickly once getting daylight on the inside. He´s not short of speed and this trip probably suits him at least as well as 7f."
Dubai Dynamo was quick to pay for himself when winning on his third start for us and his new owners "The Bottom Liners" He cost £6000 at Tattersals October Horses In Training Sales last year and won a first prize of nearly £7000 at Wolverhampton in the 7f handicap. the Racing Post commented "
This looked a decent handicap.
DUBAI DYNAMO had shaped pleasingly over 6f at the course latest, and was expected to be suited by the return to 7f, which made his major market drift rather puzzling. Always going strongly, he went on over 1f out andwon with plenty in hand. He is in again at the course on Saturday, this time over 6f, and may take some stopping under a penalty in this form."

Dhhamaan, known as Danny at home, made all under a great ride from Hayley Turner to win the The Black Country's Only Racecourse Handicap at Wolverhampton over 7f. Hayley had won on Danny when he was trainined by Clive Brittain. The Racing Post commented "DHHAMAAN had the blinkers back on, got a good start, secured the lead on the rail and then Hayley Turner slowed things down in front, before winding it up turning in and poaching an advantage she was just about able to hold to the line. The credit goes to the rider."
It has been a quiet winter for the yard with the horses not being on top form and the horrible winter weather. Taper Jean Girl and Tomintoul Star were both beaten by short margins earlier in the week and as spring is in sight everything is starting to come togeather again in time for the turf.
