Mentins for the consistant Red Cape, 3rd at Redcar, Light The City who has been 3rd and 2nd at Beverley, Imperial Djay ran a good race at York to finish 4th after a short break and old Raccoon whose 2nd at Catterick took his career prize money to over £100k!
Froggy has been threatening to get his head in front for some time and did so under a late swoop from Jimmy Sullivan. The Racing Post commented "A tight 56-75 sprint handicap. They raced in one group towards the far side with plenty of traffic problems. Three came towards the stands´ side in the end headed home by King Of Swords. FROGNAL, taken to post early and awkward to load, was one of two to miss the break. He overcame traffic problems to follow Rio Sands through and put his head in front right on the line. A winner just once at two from 23 previous starts, he is the right hands."
San Cassiano came out of his Ripon race well so we took him on a southern trip to the headquarters of horseracing at Newmarket. The Racing Post commented
"A decent handicap. The runners made for the far side when the stalls opened, with the third home racing on the rail and the other five a few horse widths off it.
SAN CASSIANO, who raced widest, responded well to pressure to win a shade comfortablyin the end. Following up his Redcar success (when 6lb lower) and now unbeaten in two since being transferred to Ruth Carr, he looks the type to find further improvement for his new yard."

Splash won at Ayr on his first start over a mile on his favoured soft ground. The Racing Post commented "The weaker of the two divisions and most of these find winning very difficult. It looked all over bar the shouting when the strong-travelling Bed Fellow went to the front and began to draw away entering the final furlong, but he got tired in the final half-furlong and that allowed the rallying ONLY A SPLASH to get back up right in the final few yards, with the pair clear.
The winner, who won his maiden on soft ground, had only that to show from 30 previous runs, and he usually races over less, but this confirms he stays 1m no problem, and he is a force when allowed to dominate."

San Cassiano had shown bags of ability in two starts as a two year old last year but had been disappointing this year and came to us for a change of scenery. The Racing Post commented "As is often the case on the round course here, it paid to race handily.
SAN CASSIANO wasn´t best drawn but he was quickly away and got to the first turn in the ideal position, just tracking the leader one off the rail. He responded well when strongly challenged inside the final 2f and, on this evidence, he looks a much-improved performer for his new stable.
The best of his 2yo form made him look well handicapped but he´d been disappointing in three starts this term, including in a claimer last time. Being switched to Ruth Carr has clearly done him the world of good though, and there could be better still to come. A John Smith´s Qualifier over this trip at Redcar is now the plan."
The yard was once again used as a location for a Ride Away catalogue photoshoot. Tash and Mel modelled this time as regular model Charlotte (Ruths sister in law) has just had a baby boy - George! Ignore who is looking for another job after retiring from racing showed just how impeccable his manners are and stood as still as a statue. Pippy also had to model a dog blanket.

Orpsie Boy joined the yard at the end of May in need of a change of scenery after spending all his racing life in Newmarket. After an encouraging run first time out for us went to Pontefract and won under a good ride for promising 7lb claimer Dale Swift. The Racing Post commented "
A sound gallop for this 56-75 handicap which was won in good style by ORPSIE BOY who was only having his second start for this yard. Dangerously well handicapped on old form, he looks the type his trainer can excel with and should be kept on the right side of.
Dhhamaan put a couple of disappointing efforts behind him to make all at Catterick, never looking like getting beaten! The Racing Post commented "DHHAMAAN made all the running and held on gamely to keep up the fine run of form of his yard, after two below par efforts. Sure to be kept busy, he doesn't have the best strike-rate on turf and isn´t one to take a short price about next time off a higher mark."
Tommintoul Star got her head in front at Southwell where she appreciates the easy surface. The Racing Post commented "TOMINTOUL STAR had made the frame on all three previous starts over C&D and she put a poor turf effort behind her to gain a deserved success, keeping on strongly to edge out the runner-up late on. She´s not had much racing for a 4yo and is the type her yard can win more races with here this winter."
Other good runs recently for Red Cape 2nd at Pontefract and Classic Descent 2nd at Ripon.

Tournedos hadn't won in over 2 years but followed up his good Hamilton second earlier in the week with a convincing win at Beverley. The Racing Post commented " A modest sprint but one run at a good pace that soon had the field well strung out. The form looks reliable. TOURNEDOS had been well backed when running his best race of the season at Hamilton last time and just did enough in going one better to land more strong support. He´s won again turned out quickly in the past and will continue to be of interest in his current mood while he remains so well handicapped."
Other good runs recently for Recsent - a close second at Musselburgh, Excusez Moi - a 3rd and a 4th, Ninth House - two 4th's and Moheebb - 2nd and 4th.

Red Cape had gradually worked his way back to form and derserved to win. He showed a great attitude - battling back to win after being briefly headed inside the final fulong. The Racing Post commented "A tight 66-85 sprint handicap. RED CAPE, who has slipped to a mark 2lb lower than his last success at Ripon in August, had the advantage of racing hard against the stands´ side rail. His rider´s useful 5lb allowance enabled him to just get the better of the persistent runner-up. Now he has regained winning brackets he should continue to give a good account of himself. "
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
The Racing Postt commented "A decent handicap run at a sound pace, and the in-form CHARLIE COOL, who is due to be 7lb higher in future, stayed on strongly to assert inside the final half-furlong. The Cambridgeshire, a race he has been well beaten in before, is the long-term aim."
Other good efforts recently from an unlucky in running Moheebb 3rd at Haydock, 2nd twice Classic Descent, Ignore 3rd, Red Cape 3rd twice.
The Racing Post commented "It took IMPERIAL DJAY a very long time to break his duck, but he has been a revelation since joining his current yard and this was his fourth success since April. Held up early, he was cantering all over his rivals entering the last 2f and once in front over a furlong out, powered right away. This trip on a decent surface are ideal for him, but the handicapper will hit him hard for this so he may need to turn out again soon under a penalty. He holds an entry at Ayr on Friday."
Ninth Housewent one better than his unlucky defeat at Beverley when scoring under a forceful ride from Jame Sullivan. The Racing Post commented "Exposed performers in a fair handicap and one run at an ordinary gallop. NINTH HOUSE had shaped much better for his in-form stable on his previous start and confirmed that promise to nail the enterprisingly ridden runner-up late on. He is due to go up 5lb in future but he will remain well treated on his best form and it would not be a surprise to see him win again this summer."
Good runs also this week from Klynch 2nd, Imperial Djay 2nd and Tomintoul Star 2nd.
We sent out five runners and four of them were in the money!
At Catterick Imperial Djay put two unlucky in running defeats behind him to win in a photo finish under PJ Mc Donald. The Racing Post commented " An open handicap on paper but, in truth, little got into it as Glenridding set a decent gallop, kicked three lengths clear turning for home and looked to have the race in the bag when entering the final furlong with a five-length advantage, only for IMPERIAL DJAY to emerge from the pack with a rare rattle to nab him right on the line. The winner has shown improved form since getting off the mark at Wolverhampton in April and represented a bang-in-form Ruth Carr team. He appreciated the return to this trip, having found Newcastle´s 6f not enough of a stamina test last time, and could easily go in again in current mood." Also at Catterick Frognal finished 3rd after a slow start from the stalls and was doing all his best work at the finish.

At Beverley James Sullivan gave Ninth House a good ride to finish second from a bad draw. He only just failed to beat the favourite, going down 1/4 of length. Chosen One made it two from two for us when winning the concluding 5f handicap. The Racing Post commented "An ordinary sprint handicap and the fourth race on the card over the minimum trip. The time was only 0.34sec slower than the earlier Class 2 conditions stakes. The first two were both drawn high, traditionally a plus here, but ended up contesting the finish some distance away from the inside rail.
The in-form CHOSEN ONE completed a quick hat-trick, two for this yard, with a game victory. Always up with the pace from the 15 stall, he was strongly tackled by the runner-up but found more close home and gave the impression he can win again."
We scored with our first runner at Newmarkets Rowley Mile course when Dubai Dynamo got his head in front right on the line under Hayley Turner. The Racing Post commemted "A good, competitive handicap that was won by ill-fated former course specialist Plum Pudding in 2008, and by the very useful Roaring Forte last season. An open race on paper, it produced a good finish with those racing towards the far side appearing to have an advantage. DUBAI DYNAMO has had a busy time of it this season but swooped late to gain his third success of the year. A consistent performer, he is already due to go up 5lb from tomorrow, so will not find it easy to follow up unless the handicapper revises his opinion in view of this narrow success."

Raccoon ran well at Redcar to finish 3rd in a head wind that doesnt suit horses fitted with breathing tubes. Dubai Dynamo ran a blinder with a 6lb penelty at Ripon going down a neck to Tiger Reins from the in form Michael Dodds stable.
Charlie followed up his Thirsk success with a win on rain softened ground at Ripo bringing home a first prize of over £7500. The Racing Post commented "Probably an ordinary handicap for the grade, but at least they seemed to go a reasonable pace and the time was good, being 3.49 seconds quicker than the later 3-y-o maiden won by Law To Himself.
CHARLIE COOL coped with the overwatered ground to defy a 6lb rise for his recent success at Thirsk. He´s thriving right now and could complete the hat-trick."

Tash, who looks after Charlie at home, receives her grooms prize from the sponsor.

Charlie relaxing in his paddock after his win.
Chosen One was purchased privately by Mr Chapman from his previous owner Roger Fell after he won a seller at Thirsk. He showed a real will to win over a (possibly too) sharp 5f at Musselburgh and had plenty of assistance from the saddle from James Sullivan who had also won on him at Thirsk. The Racing Post commented "CHOSEN ONE, with yet another new yard after beating much higher-rated rivals dropped to selling grade at Thirsk ten days earlier, was off a decent mark here judged strictly on that form, despite being raised 7lb in the meantime. Never far away, he responded to the persistence of his rider to get up inthe dying strides. Connections believe he is best suited by a stiff 5f or 6f and he may turn out again at Chester on Saturday."
Charlie enjoyed a return to a mile to win under Robert Winston at local course Thirsk. The Racing Post commented "
A fair handicap, run in a time around 1.7 seconds quicker than the earlier 51-65 event.
CHARLIE COOL was ridden more conservatively than he had been at Ripon latest, and was dropping back in trip. Racing closest to the inside rail of the four who were more or less in line at the furlong pole, he punched on willingly to score. His mark had come down no less than 20lb since his last win in Dubai in February last year."
Dubai deserves to win another race after several good efforts and was given an intelligent ride from Andy Elliott after breaking much better then normal from the stalls and travelling very well. The Racing Post commented "Six course and distance winners in this line-up made it a competitive 76-90 handicap. Once again it paid to race up with the pace, the winner DUBAI DYNAMO was always on the premises. Dropped to his last winning mark and a positive ride did the jobhere, however it will require a career best to follow up next time, that said, his trainer does well with these types."
The 7f handicap at Newcastle was divided and we won both divisions!
Imperial Djay has been the model of consistance since he joined us and won under a strong drive from Robert Winston after meeting trouble in running. The Racing Post commented "Robert Winston did really well to get a run on IMPERIAL DJAY and deserves credit. The gelding was tucked away out the back towards the inside, and looked to have little hope of finding running room, particularly with Eye For The Girls who was ahead of him, having nowhere to go. However, he somehow got a gap and burst through to get up near the line."
Dhhamaan, having been in the wilderness for 18 months, has really come good and is also running consistantly transferring his AW form onto the grass to win his first race on the turf. Again ridden by Robert Winston but with totally different tactics. Dhhamaan made all and never looked like getting caught. The Racing Post commented "DHHAMAAN was gifted the lead from the rails draw and could be called the winner from some way out, taking advantage of a mark 6lb lower than on the AW to gain his first turf success."
Credit must be given to Trick or Two who is very fast for four and a half furlongs and has been placed several times. Lucky Art has also been unlucky not to win. Dubai Dynamo has been doing his best work at the finish and deserves to win more races if luck went his way. Avontuur has also been running with great credit.
Mr Chapman purchased Flores from David Baron in February and he has only been out of the first three once in five runs since then. Phil Makin gave him a well judged ride to win over 7f at his favourite track Southwell. The Racing Post commented " FLORES SEA benefited from racing just off the hot pace and stayed on best to confirm recent Redcar placings with Young Gladiator, despite meeting that rival on 3lb worse terms (just a neck separated them last time). His last four wins have been gained over C&D."

The Hollingbridge Partnership have owned Imperial Djay since his first run as a three year old in 2008 and Djay finally repaid them their loyalty with a win at Wolverhampton. Since joining the gang at Mowbray House Farm Djay has found a renewed zest for racing. The Racing Post commented:- "IMPERIAL DJAY more than confirmed his good run in a maiden here last time, and looks the sort that his new yard will get going back in the right direction as the year goes on, travelling strongly in behind and settling matters quickly once getting daylight on the inside. He´s not short of speed and this trip probably suits him at least as well as 7f."
Dubai Dynamo was quick to pay for himself when winning on his third start for us and his new owners "The Bottom Liners" He cost £6000 at Tattersals October Horses In Training Sales last year and won a first prize of nearly £7000 at Wolverhampton in the 7f handicap. the Racing Post commented "
This looked a decent handicap.
DUBAI DYNAMO had shaped pleasingly over 6f at the course latest, and was expected to be suited by the return to 7f, which made his major market drift rather puzzling. Always going strongly, he went on over 1f out andwon with plenty in hand. He is in again at the course on Saturday, this time over 6f, and may take some stopping under a penalty in this form."

Dhhamaan, known as Danny at home, made all under a great ride from Hayley Turner to win the The Black Country's Only Racecourse Handicap at Wolverhampton over 7f. Hayley had won on Danny when he was trainined by Clive Brittain. The Racing Post commented "DHHAMAAN had the blinkers back on, got a good start, secured the lead on the rail and then Hayley Turner slowed things down in front, before winding it up turning in and poaching an advantage she was just about able to hold to the line. The credit goes to the rider."
It has been a quiet winter for the yard with the horses not being on top form and the horrible winter weather. Taper Jean Girl and Tomintoul Star were both beaten by short margins earlier in the week and as spring is in sight everything is starting to come togeather again in time for the turf.
Swiss loves Southwell and this was his 6th win at the Nottinghamshire course. Given a great ride by Joe Fanning who is three from three on Swiss. Joe also rode his one hundreth winner of the year with a treble at the meeting. The Racing Post commented "
SWISS ART, with blinkers back on, benefited from the drop in grade to gain his sixth-career success, all of which have been gained at this track. He should remain competitive around here this winter."
Stillington racehorse trainer Ruth Carr reveals how she is topping the winners’ charts this season. A glut of winners has established Stillington’s Ruth Carr as the country’s leading female racehorse trainer. She tells STEVE CARROLL about her methods.
THE yard’s Mr Grumpy is getting ready to have another tantrum. As Ruth Carr strokes his forehead, Excusez Moi – ears pinned back – lunges and makes a beeline for her hand. They are a big set of teeth when flashing forward. Carr has seen all this before. She flicks her hand away, grabs the rein and brings her temperamental gelding to a full stop with merely a flick of the wrist. Click her to read more.
Ninth House won on the soft ground under Silvestre de Souzsa at Thirsk. The Racing Post commented " A competitive 65-78 handicap run at a very strong pace. NINTH HOUSE made it two wins on turf to go with his eleven on the all-weather. He slipped through on the inner turning in and was firmly in command at the line. This was his 61st career startand he is a credit to his trainer who will no doubt be keen to exploit his lower rating on turf."
Avontuur won the Phoenix Security Handicap at Newcastle on August Bank Holiday Monday. The Racing post commented " They seemed to go off quite quickly but, not for the first time on this card, it proved difficult to make up significant ground. AVONTUUR proved well suited by the combination of the re-fitting of blinkers and a positive ride. He showed a determined attitude when strongly challenged and ultimately won decisively."
A mention for Sunley Soveriegn who has been 2nd in 3 of his 4 last starts!
Ninth House made it 36 winners for the yard since 1st January when taking the RCDM - At Selly Oak NHS Hospital Handicap at Wolverhampton. The Racing Post commented "Mainly exposed performers in a fair handicap in which the gallop was reasonable and several finished in a heap. The winner was another to race in the centre in the straight. Multiple course winner NINTH HOUSE, from a yard that has been in tremendous fettle, has been running well on turf and posted his best effort for this yard from his higher all-weather rating. He is equally effective over 1m, should not be going up too much for this and should continue to give it his best shot."
Good placed efforts from Sunley Soveriegn and Diamond Laura both 2nd at Hamilton and Ninth House at Newcastle. Also a really good run from Red Cape at Haydock to finish 2nd. After all the media interest before Excusez Moi's run in the Great St Wilfred he ran a disappointing race. Excusez had obviously got out of his stable at the wrong side on saturday morning and after being very difficult in the preliminaries showed no interest in racing at all. However this isn't the first time Excusez has put on such performances and will undoubtably bounce back another time when the pressure is off at a big price!

Raccoon is becoming a favourite of race goers in Scotland with another victory at Musselburgh in the Subscribe Online At racinguk.com Selling Stakes. Given another great ride by P J McDonald Raccoon won a shade cosily! The Racing Post commented " A fair race of its type, particularly when one considers the feeble prize-money, and it featured three contenders closely matched on official ratings. It also produced a thrilling finish, with all four of the runners entering the final furlong line abreast. RACCOON was making a quick reappearance after taking a course-and-distance handicap just four days previously but, with his stable enjoying a hot streak, there seemed no reason to doubt he would again be able to demonstrate his wellbeing. Hewas not the fastest away, with that honour going to Ingelby Star, but he always had a pitch close to the stands´ side rail and, even though he was squeezed slightly with 2f left, he picked up again in the closing stages and was nicely on top in the finalstrides."

Lucky Art made it third time lucky at Thirsk's evening meeting having been unlucky in running the last twice. The Racing Post commented " A competitive 69-85 sprint handicap run at a very strong pace. LUCKY ART, out of luck on his first two starts for this bang in form yard, after being claimed when runner-up at Catterick, went both right and left before doing just enough in the end. He should continue to give a good account of himself."
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Old favourite Raccoon won under a brilliant ride from PJ to win Musselburgh evening meeting. The Racing post comments "Another competitive sprint handicap which was run at a good gallop thanks to the runner-up.
The nine year-old RACCOON, was landing his third course and distance win and he was ideally drawn to attack from stall one. Ruth Carr has her horses in redhot form, but it remains to be seen if he can follow up, as he will be as high in the handicap as he´s been in five years." Raccoon has run 11 times this season and has been in the prize money every time. His career earning are now
£97,544.

The yard enjoyed a fruitful trip down South and took on the big boys successfully when Amazing Blue Sky made all under Liam Jones to win at Sandown. The Racing Post commented "
With the rain unrelenting, the going was changed again to good to soft, with fast-ground performers now at a disadvantage. AMAZING BLUE SKY is from an in-form stable and he put up a heroic performance under an excellent ride, with Liam Jones confirming that the soft lead had played into his hands and that he had been able to get a breather into him turning for home. The number of times this big, scopey front-runner has attracted the comment 'gamely´ speaks for itself, and connections believe that he will continue to improve."
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Redwater River won in the hands of apprentice Dean Heslop at Catterick. The Racing Post commented " REDWATER RIVER, whoseyard have their runners in cracking form at present, has been kept very busy of late and was making another quick reappearance. He came with a strong run from over a furlong out and stayed on strongly inside the final furlong to win his first race since coming from Ireland. He is clearly taking his racing well at present."

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Our Stillington yard has now sent out 30 winners since 1st January 2009. Moheebb and Red Cape who were both in action over the weekend at Thirsk showed their well being by winning convincingly. The Racing Post comments " This fair handicap was run at a good pace thanks to the front-running Society Venue, MOHEEBB followed up his Thirsk win two days earlier with a gritty effort from off the pace. He hit top gear in between the final 2f and it was clear at the furlong pole he was the one to be on. The race was run to suit, but this track is not ideal for one with his style of racing and so he is clearly right at the top of his game again." "RED CAPE was well backed on this return from just a three-day break and gave his stable a quick-fire double. He won the battle for the lead and dug really deep when asked to win the race. This uncomplicated sprinter is suited by a sharp test over this trip and continues in grand form, despite being kept busy. A trip to Haydock on Saturday night is now on the cards for him and his trainer will also look at the Great St Wilfrid back here later in the month as a possible target, but already has Excusez Moi for that."
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________
What Diamond Laura lacks in size she makes up for in heart. A gutsy performance saw her beat a competitive field of 2 year olds in front of Chesters packed Sunday crowd. The Racing Post comments " DIAMOND LAURA, claimed out of David Evans´ yard for £13,000 after winning over 5f at Beverley on her latest outing, had already shown herself to be equally effective over this trip when landing a claimer at Wolverhampton two starts back, and she readily completed a hat-trick on this rise in grade. Held up through the early stages, the strong pace suited her and she picked up well in the straight, despite having to challenge four wide. This was her fourth win of the campaign and she´s progressing into a pretty useful filly."

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Moheebb came from last to first to win at our local track on a muddy saturday afternoon. The Racing Post comments " A strongly run race on soft ground is ideal for MOHEEBB over this trip and Ruth Carr´s gambled-on 5yo got everything he needed as Fesko and Ilie Nastase cut each other´s throats by setting a blistering gallop. Moheebb was hard under the pump and a long way back turning into the straight but, as those up front began to founder, he set sail down the wide outside to pass rival after rival and storm clear in the final furlong. This has to go down as nigh-on a career-best effort from the gelding but, although ultimately impressive, the race was teed up to perfection for him, so it may be wise not to get too carried away. He has an entry in a Ripon handicap on Monday and connections reported the intention was to go there, providing he comes out of this okay "

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Ninth House won the Save Our Steel Family Funday - 9th August Handicap over a mile at Redcar under Silvestre De Souza. Our 7 year old full horse has won 10 times on the all weather but this was his first win on the turf from 13 starts. The Racing Post commented "A big field for this low-grade handicap which as expected was run at a good gallop; all 17 elected to race down the centre of the track. NINTH HOUSE was returning to the turf after a spell on the all-weather off a 16lb lower mark for his in-form yard. He looks very straight forward and will be of interest if turning out under a penalty (he holds an entry at Thirsk on Saturday)."

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Arnie made all to beat the Mark Tompkins trained, odds on favourite, My Girl Jode, under a fine front running ride from Silvestre de Souza. The Racing Post commented " AMAZING BLUE SKY, like several of his stable companions, is at the top of his game and showed afine attitude to follow up last week´s course and distance victory. This seems his optimum distance and, although life will be tougher after reassessment, he may be able to progress."
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Must mention the placed horses who have been running so well including Excusez Moi 5th in the Scottish Stewards Cup at Hamilton, Raccoon hasn't been out of the first four in 9 races this year, good placed form for Red Cape and Moheebb both at York and other racecourses, Sunley Sovereign at Hamilton, Ice Planet and Avontuur at Ayr, Newgate over hurdles at Market Rasen, Calmdownmate at Southwell and Dhhamaan and Ninth House at Wolverhampton.
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Swiss Art went back to his favourite track at Southwell and upped his game to win the 1 mile handicap against older horses. Ruth's first winner for Hartlepool owner Brian Morton. The Racing Post comment "SWISS ART, from a yard in good form, turned in his best effort to notch his fifth win at the track but his first in handicap company. He showed a good attitude and connections may decide to run him from a lower turf mark on Friday."
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Another great front running performance this time from Natural Rhythm who benifitted from the refitting of blinkers when winning at Beverley evening meeting. The Racin gPost commented "NATURAL RHYTHYM, who had the blinkers back on, had won twice from the front this time last year. Out of the handicap he was able to race from a 4lb lower mark than his second success. Given his own way in front his rider stepped up the gallop turning in and sent him three-lengths clear entering the final furlong. In the end the post came just in time and his jockey deserves full marks."

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Only a Splash made all under a great ride from Paul Mulrennen to win the maiden handicap at Ripon. The Raing Post comments "ONLY A SPLASH got over to the far rail from his high draw and made every yard, finally getting off the mark at the 24th attempt. The form is clearly very moderate, but he´s a half-brother to Soaked, a prolific sprinter who racked up 19 wins and was still winning at the age of 11. It´s worth noting that Soaked´s first success also came at the age of five, on his 22nd start, so there are parallels." See the horse for sale page for comments made by Ruth over a year ago. She's always had faith in Splash and her husband, Roger, looked after him all winter while he was out of training.

Amazing Blue Sky known as Arnie at home won under Silvestre de Souza at DoncasterEvening meeting. Our 3 year old gelding showed a wonderful attitude by making all. more details coming soon. The Racing post comments " AMAZING BLUE SKY adopted his usual pitch at the head of affairs and was equal to every challenge thrown athim in the final stages. He hadn´t shown much form with give in the ground before, but most of his sire´s stock seem to handle such conditions. He´d had plenty of chances since being claimed to join his present stable, but he seems to be thriving on his busy campaign and it´s far from impossible that there is more to come."

Mowbray House Farm was used as a location for the Joules Country Clothing range for the Ride-Away catalogue. Ruth's sister in law Charlotte and nephew Oliver did the modelling.

One of our foals modelled a Foal Turn Out rug also for the Ride-Away catalogue.

Swiss Art won under Silvestre de Souza at Southwell Evening meeting. Our 3 year old gelding tracked the leaders and despite hanging left won by three quarters of a length. The Racing Post comments " The winning time was 2.27 seconds quicker than the 55-rated Guga managed in an earlier handicap, but SWISS ART probably didn´t have to run up to his official mark of 70 considering he had 13lb in hand over the runner-up at the weights. He took an ageto get up in the straight, but in fairness he was being leaned on by Iron Out, and also seemed intimidated by that one´s jockey´s whip."

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Having finished 4th at Newcastle in thick fog on ground softer than ideal at the Northumberland Plate meeting last week, Red Cape bounced back with an impressive victory at Catterick on his preferred quick ground. Andy Elliot did the steering and quickened away from the filed to win by 5 lengths. The Racing Post Commented "What looked a tight-knit 61-80 handicap was turned into a procession by Red Cape , as the market indicated beforehand.
Looking an absolute picture despite having had four runs in June, the six-year-old, who was 4lb higher than for his Thirsk success, kept tabs on the leader and the first two home were the first two throughout. He went clear in a matter of strides when sent about his business and was value for at least six lengths. He clearly thrives on racing and will reappear under a penalty at Pontefract on Tuesday."

Ninth House followed up some good efforts on the grass with a convincing victory at Wolverhampton in the Betdaq Poker handicap over 7 furlongs. The Racing Post commented " The race was run at a searching early pace. Ninth House ran a lot better than the bare facts suggested at Musselburgh three days earlier as he fell out of the gates and, very well backed, showed his true colours with a ready success. The strong early pace played right into his hands and this was his first success since landing a four-timer off a 17lb higher mark over C&D last March, so he should make a bold bid to follow up." Good runs also from Dhhamaan finishing 4th and Swiss Art who finished 5th after being interferred with.

Red Cape made virtually all to win the Adorn Hats Handicap at local track Thirsk. The Racing Post commented "A 70-84 sprint handicap run at a furious pace.
Red Cape, who met trouble on the turn for home in the controversial ´traffic cones´ race at Pontefract a week earlier, was asked to race from a 7lb higher mark than for his soft ground Catterick success. He made every yard and simply would not be denied. He has won from a 22lb higher mark in the past and should continue to give a good account of himself this summer for his very much in-form yard." We were delighted with the attitude Red Cape showed.

We sent out 4 runners on Friday and 3 of them won!
Raccoon set the ball rolling when winning the Lionweld Kennedy Sprint Handicap over 5 furlongs. Ridden by P J MacDonald our 9 year old gelding won by 2 lengths. Raccoon's Owner/Breeder Peter Savill, former Chairman of the British Horseracing Authority, was present at Catterick to see his horse win. The Racing Post commented "A modest sprint but quite competitive and plenty with chances, and the time was nearly half a second slower than the opening juvenile contest. It was a headlong dash with four upsides most of the way but in the end Raccoon proved the strongest. He has a pretty good record at this sort of level and confirmed Nottingham form with the favourite, who was 4lb worse off this time. A sharp 5f suits him ideally and the rain may have just come in time to ease the ground. He could reappear at Haydock next week."

Red Cape was the next into the winners enclosure in the colours of Middleham Park Racing. Andrew Elliott rode a great race as he elected to come to the faster stands side on the rain softened ground. and won by 4 and a half lengths. The Racing Post commented "The ground was changed again, this time to Good, before this race. The rain had clearly got into the ground and the jockeys had a difference of opinion as to where to race in the straight. However, Andrew Elliott, the rider of Red Cape got it right in coming across to the stands´ side, as his mount found plenty for pressure and powered clear in the final furlong. The time was 1.22secs slower than the earlier (better class) contest over the same trip. Red Cape had not scored for over two years but had lost out only narrowly over 7f at Musselburgh last month, and the trainer´s runners have been in great form of late. He has run well in the past when making a quick reappearance and it might be worth turning him out under a penalty."

Avontuur made a real mess of the start in the Betdaq.co.uk Handicap at Wolverhampton but made up plenty of ground to win by a length and a quarter under Dean Heslop. The Racing Post commentd " There was a contested lead here and as a result the early gallop was very strong. That suited Avontuur very much as he had missed the break badly, giving away several lengths at the start. The strong gallop ensured that the leaders came back, though, and he stayed on down the outside to pick up the spoils. This was his fourth win from 15 starts at the track, but it still wouldn´t be a surprise to see some form of headgear fitted to him next time."

Sunley won the Weatherbys Bloodstock Insurance Handicap under Silvester De Souza. The Racing Post commented "Sunley Sovereign stepped up on the form he showed on his reappearance with a decisive success from 1lb out of the handicap. His trainer thinks he will be suited by further, but she´s been struggling to get him into suitable races." It was a great day for the team. We sent out 4 runners from our yard and all 4 were in the money! Moheebb ran a fine race under his 6lb penelty for his Haydock win to finish 2nd on ground too fast for him. Ninth House, an All Weather specialist, was hampered and closing quickly to finish 3rd in the the Amatuer Riders race under Ruth's cousin Rachel Clark. Raccoon was also in action at Musselbugh Evening meeting and finshed a gallant 3rd in the 5f Selling race.

Excusez Moi won the Brantingham Conditions Stakes at Beverley under Duran Fentiman. The Racing Post commented " A decent conditions event run at a good pace. Few appeared to hold much chance on official ratings and, in a sprint like this, racing room was always likely to be at a premium. Excusez Moi rather inconsistent of late, had a bit to find at the weights. He proved awkward to load, but was backed to return to his best form and won well. A gelding who stays further, the decent tempo on a stiff track proved ideal, and he found plenty when the gaps appeared. He seems likely to be aimed at the Wokingham." This was an £18,000 race the biggest prize Ruth has bagged as a trainer.

Moheebn was in action at Haydock and ran away with the Betfred "The Peoples Bookmaker" Handicap on his beloved heavy ground. The Racing Post commented "This looked competitive beforehand, but the patiently ridden Moheebb powered well clear in the closing stages after getting a good run towards the inside. He wasn´t at his best at Doncaster the previous week, but evidently relished the testing conditions. His connections will probably be keen to get him out under a penalty, but he´ll almost certainly need easy ground if he´s to reproduce this sort of form."

Excusez pulled a front shoe off when winning at Ripon last night. Luckily Ruth's brother, Richard, made time on saturday morning to come and replace the shoe. When Excusez pulled the shoe off he also pulled off some of his hoof so there wasn't much foot to nail the shoe onto. Rich had to apply a special bandage to the foot which when wetted sets hard, a bit like having a cast put on a broken bone, before he could put the shoe back on.

Excusez Moi made it a week to remember when winning the SIS Picture Services Handicap at Ripon evening meeting. Our 7 year old gelding was held up towards the rear, before making smooth headway on the outside about 2 furlongs out, was then ridden to quickened and lead inside final furlong staying on strongly. Excusez was ridden by P J MacDonald. The Racing Post commented: "This looked a decent sprint handicap for the grade, although a couple of the more likely types disappointed. The main action took place away from the stands´ rail, and just like in the earlier race on the straight track, a low draw did not provide the advantage anticipated by many before racing. Excusez Moi, who raced against a track bias when behind Sunrise Safari at Newcastle last time, was a comfortable winner, and he oozed class in the latter stages. Although by no means best away, he arrived on the scene travelling easily towards the outside around 2f out and found enough when finally asked. The winner´s trainer, just like her grandfather David Chapman, is proving herself adept at sweetening up quirky sprinters, and there should be more tocome from this one. Ideally suited by a strong gallop, it would be no surprise to see this son of Fusaichi Pegasus win another big one this season, with races like the Wokingham, Stewards´ Cup, and Great St Wilfrid, which he landed back in 2006, surely worthy targets." Exciting times here at Mowbray!

Newgate was upped in class and rose to the challange well when winning the
Great Antiques Fair Here - 30th May Handicap Hurdle. On ground softer than ideal Oliver Williams dropped Newgate out before making up ground around the home bend. He was travelling wonderfully well coming up the home straight, leading between the last two flights and staying on well up the hill to the line. He beat Lawgiver trained by our neighbour, Marjorie Fife, by a head. There was 8 lengths back to the third horse. The Racing Post commented "Newgate is a steadily progressive performer who turned in his best effort over hurdles. Connections feel that the decision to hold him up for longer is the key to him and he appeals as the type to win again over this trip on quick ground."

About 6 weeks after the partners bought into Calmdownmate he rewarded them by winning the NSPCC Child Voice Appeal Handicap over 5 furlongs at Southwell under Paul Mulrennen. The Racing Post commented " His (the runner up) rider tried to nurse him home, but he was unable to respond when Calmdownmate collared him entering the final furlong. Already a three-time winner here during the winter including two over this trip, Calmdownmate was 4lb higher than for the most recent of those but he shrugged that off and having been prominent from the off, responded well to pressure to wear down the runner-up."
Raucous, known as Roy at home, won the Parklands Golf Club Handicap over 1 miles and four and a half furlongs at Newcastle under Andrew Elliot. There were 2 non runners leaving only four to face the judge. Raucous took a keen hold and tracked the habitual front runner Mister Arjay before leading about 2 furlongs out. Tim Easterby's Rosbay looked to be travelling better than Raucous a furlong out but our gelding showed a good attitude to battle on and win nicely by a length and three quarters.

Newgate, better know as Neville at home, was given a near perfect ride by Oliver Williams to win the Book Online @marketrasenraces.co.uk Selling Hurdle. The Racing Post commented "Newgate looked terrific in the paddock and also came in for sustained market support, having been available at 6-1 in some places just over two hours before the race. This former 7f Flat winner was sent to the front later than had been the case at Sedgefield last time, and that proved the right tactic as he was able to assert inside the final 75 yards. The combination of fast ground and basement grade has enabled him to get competitive twice running now, and it seems sensible to keep him in these sort of contests for the time being. He was bought in by connections for 4,200gns."

Twelve years ago Ruth rode her first winner over hurdles in this very race on a horse called Eurolink The Rebel owned and trained by her father Stephen Clark! We may see if we can dig out a picture!
Amazing Blue Sky came across one too good at Southwell today when finishing 2nd in the one mile three furlong handicap for three year olds under Andy Elliot. Surely it is only a matter of time before he goes one better!

Stable favourite Raccoon was partnered to victory by P J MacDonald in the Racing UK Live In Your Living Room Handicap Stakes over 5 furlongs at Nottingham Evening Meeting. With 16 runners the field split into two main groups on opposite sides of the course although Raccoon and the horse placed 2nd raced on the far rail there was no decisive advantage. Raccoon is nine years old now, but he was still in cracking form last season and he loves to race fresh. Showing his customary speed, he made all in the far side bunch. It was 2 years to the day that his jockey Paddy MacDonald, a former jump jockey, rode the winner of the Scottish Grand National! Raccoon is owned by former BHA Chief Peter Savill who also bred him. He is fitted with a “tube” to help him breathe after several operations did not improve his “wind problem”. The tube is made up of three metal pieces and a plug which is removed when he is exercised and when he is racing. He breathes straight through the hole in his neck by-passing all the places where the operations where unsuccessful.

Excusez Moi, owned in partnership by Ruth's Mum and Dad Stephen and Angela Clark and Ruth's Grandfather David Chapman, won the Tote Super 7 Easter Stakes at Musselburgh on a lovely sunny Sunday. Our 7 year old gelding was held up, showed headway over 2f out when switched to the outside about a furlong out and ran on strongly inside the final furlong to lead near line. This was a nice prize for the yard to win and the decent pace on quick ground resulted in a time only 0.32 seconds outside the track record. Excusez had pleased us when faring third best of the stands´ side group in a big-field handicap over this trip at Doncaster on his previous start and built on that effort with the cheekpieces re-fitted. The Racing Post wrote "He was fully entitled to win this having dropped to a mark 16lb lower than when landing the 2006 Great St Wilfrid." Excusez isn't the easist to deal with in the prelimaries and Ruth earned the Racing Post's quote of the day with "He's a monster. If he isn't trying to take your head off with his teeth, he's trying to back you into a corner to kick you." After being well supported in the betting we were delighted to bring the £6,231 prize back to Yorkshire.

Newgate ran a cracking race under Mark Bradburne when finishing 2nd to Can't Remember in the John Wade Skip Hire Novices' Selling Hurdle (Qualifier). He was held up early on in the race before taking the lead after 3 out. Still leading at the last he was beaten by a horse who stayed up the hill better than he did. A trip to Musselburgh proved profitable as Raucous wins the "Buttys Final Furlong Selling Stakes". Given a perfect front running ride by Paul Mulrennen Raucous won by 3 lengths. We purchased the 6 year old gelding out of Tom Tates Tadcaster stables at the December Doncaster Bloodstock sales, he has had some problems in the past but the drop down in grade should have given him confidence and we look forward to having some fun with him this summer. Moheebb also ran very well the same day on ground much quicker than he prefers. He crept into the race 2 furlongs out and was drawing upside the leaders when he was accidently struck in the face by one of the other jockeys whips. He eventually finished 4th. Photos show Ruth with Moheebb receiving the Best Turned Out award on behalf of Tash who was busy looking after Raucous in the post race dope test and Moheebb, royal blue and white colours, short of racing room after being struck in the face, finishing fourth.

Newgate found one to good in the Alan King trained Noticable at the Town Moor track. Having made the running Newgate was joined at the last by the winner, rated 116, who went away to score easily. This was a good run from Newgate as he came up against one unusually good for a seller.

Calmdownmate, is now 3 wins from 5 starts at Southwell and has won 2 from 5 starts for us. Luke Morris get on particulary well with "Matey" and scored by one and a quarter lengths.

Calmdownmate, having only his second run for us having been bought after a selling race out of Karl Burke's yard, won the "Hospitality At Southwell Racecourse Apprentice Claiming Stakes" under Luke Morris. The Racing Post analysis "On paper this looked a competitive sprint, as most of these had been in some sort of form in recent weeks on this surface. In fact, four of these had clashed in a similar contest at the end of December and it was one of those that proved victorious. Calmdownmate reversed from with Colorus and Monte Major on that meeting after moving strongly throughout. He kept on really well once in front and looks the type to win more races at this sort of level." He has since been second and we are looking forward to having plenty of fun with "Matey" who is already a favourite with Mel (pictured below).

TAKING the high road to Scotland is becoming a successful route for Ruth Carr in her first year as the trainer after taking over the licence from her grandfather David Chapman at Mowbray House in Stillington, near York. Off we went to Scotland again, this time to Ayr with Avontuur, and made it four winners in 10 days north of the border. Avon is a lovely big horse who now runs in the colours of Ruth's Great Uncle - John Chapman. Ridden by Andrew Elliott, Avon was always in a prominent position and led about 2 furlongs out, he was headed breifly but stuck on well to win by a length with his ears pricked! He has now won on the all weather, good to firm and heavy ground making him a versitile sort of horse. Click here to purchase and view more photos courtesy of Grossick Photography.
NOTABLE hat-trick has propelled trainer Ruth Carr to her best week in racing. We made the journey north of the border for the second time in a week and enjoyed success again. Raccoon finished a creditable 2nd in the five furlong sprint. Our tubed eight year old struggled to hold his position early and found himself with nowhere to go a furlong out. He switched right and was closing on the winner when the line came. Mr Chapman bought Top Jaro out of David Barker's Richmond yard after winning the selling race at Redcar on the 24th September. The five year old gelding repaid us quickly when making all in the claiming race. Click here to view and purchase photos courtesy of Grossick Photography.
Top Jaro wins at the first time of asking.
Raccoon just misses out in the five furlong sprint.
The sun shone and it was a day to remember for the team at Hamilton Park. Sunley Sovereign scored by a length and a quarter in the 5 furlong handicap partnered by Andrew Elliott. The four year old gelding is owned by Ruth's Grandfather David Chapman and was fitted with a breathing tube earlier this year after previous wind operations were unsucessful. It has taken some time for him to become adjusted to his tube which enables him to beathe from a hole in his neck but came good at massive odds of 50 - 1.Click here to view and purchase more photos courtesy of Grossicks Photography.
Sunley Sovereign
Moheebb has been unlucky this season several times and had found trouble in running a few days previously at Ayr. He was well backed in the morning and started favourite. The extra furlong helped him to hold his position early in the race and he hit the front a furlong out and went away to score by 4 lengths. Moheebb
Natural Rhythm has had a couple of "nowheres" since winning two on the bounce in July. He came right back to form when being beaten into 2nd by Casino Night in the soft ground at Hamilton. Paul Mulrennen, deputised for the injured Seb Sanders who was oringally booked to ride our three year old, jumped him smartly from the stalls and made the running until getting collared a furlong from home. August has been a quiet month with the appalling weather and abandonment of several local meetings including Yorkshires most prestigious Ebor meeting. We made the long journey to Ayr with Moheebb and Avontuur who both finished 2nd. Moheebb was unlucky not to get his head in front after struggling to hold a position early he was eating up the ground to be beaten a neck by Richard Faheys favourite Handsome Falcon. Avontuur showed his speed after breaking well from the stalls to lead the pack up the middle of the track and was beaten by the inform Woodsley House. Moheebb blue and white colours.
Avontuur brown and orange colours.
Natural Rhythm won again, this time under Michael Stainton, at Haydocks Cancer Research evening meeting. Our chestnut colt beat plenty of in-form three-year-olds and after getting to the front from his wide draw, he proceeded to make all, having his rivals on the stretch halfway up the straight and always looking likely to hold on. The winning margin was three and a quarter lengths. Click here to view more photos and make purchases courtesy of John Grossick.
Some Like It Hots' foal is now three months old. We've nicknamed him Billy and it's amazing to see how much he's changed in 3 months.

Natural Rhythm, known as "Naughty Norman" at home, justified favourtism in the three year olds only one mile and half a furlong handicap at Hamilton under Daniel Tudhope. The chestnut colt made all to win by two and a quarter lengths and seven lengths in the colours of Michael Hill. Photos show Norman relaxing in his paddock the morning after his success. Raccoon was steered to victory by Neil Callan in the NCB Stockbrokers Handicap over 5 furlongs at Musselburgh evening. He was the 7-4 favourite, broke well from his number 2 stall and was never headed. Raccoon has bags of speed and would never be beaten over 4 furlongs! The line only just came soon enough for him as the slow starting, Alan Berry trained, Wicked Wilma was a fast finishing 2nd. Raccoon is owned by former BHA Chief Peter Savill who also bred him. The eight year old gelding is fitted with a “tube” to help him breathe after several operations did not improve his “wind problem”. The tube is made up of three metal pieces and a plug which is removed when he is exercised and when he is racing. He breathes straight through the hole in his neck by-passing all the places where the operations where unsuccessful. No winners in May but another good run from Moheeb 2nd to an improving sort trainined by Alan Swinbank. Raccoon has been unlucky not to win. He has run four times this season and been badly drawn in three of the races winning his side. Third's from Rad Cape, Natural Rhythm and Avontuur.

The Middleham Park Racing owned Kanisorn ran a cracker in his first run under Ruth's name. He jumped well from the inside berth and attempted to make all. He was headed about a furlong out but stayed on gamely to be beaten a length by the Steve Golling's trained outsider Exit To Luck. We were delighted with this run and intend to run him again soon. The yard has now had four runners for MPR and 3 of those have finished second - let's hope we can go one better next time.

We had our first runner for Middleham Park Racing when Autumn Charm ran at Southwell on 14th January 2008. She ran an absolute blinder in defeat, beaten half a length by the recent Fibresand winner Home. Unfortunately the filly was claimed and has gone to join another stable.

We are delighted to welcome the members of Middleham Park Racing to our owners list here at Mowbray House Farm. They have purchased Kanisorn a 6 year old bay gelding, winner of 19 races, 18 of those in Italy and Autumn Charm a 3 year old chesnut filly, winner of 2 of her last 3 races. We look forward to getting into the winners enclosure soon!
